Care, Share and Inspire – Climate Wisdom from COP28 on December 6 2023

In today’s Climate Wisdom series, the moderator Golo Pilz – Adviser Renewable Energy, Brahma Kumaris, shared the prediction that airconditioner sales are bound to soar in the coming years proving a huge impact on the climate. Also there is a move, particularly in India, to move towards millets instead of wheat because of water conservation and low air pollution.

The panel of experts for this episode were Sister Jayanti – Add. Admin. Head of the Brahma Kumaris; Emmanuel Sobel Seck, Director of ENDA Energie, Senegal.

Vibha Dhawan, PhD, Director General, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)

Vibha noted that the impact of climate change impacts the struggling countries most, although they have had no role to play in the damage. We only have one planet to live in, let’s not leave everything to the government. Everyone must own this responsibility.  “Sustainability is engraved in the DNA of every Indian. We lost our way in-between and we’re coming back now,” she said. She also felt that women are having to suffer the most in a male dominated society, however things are changing  now and we are moving in the right direction, although we can go faster.

Emmanuel said that we need more accountability because much gets decided here and very less gets implemented. The COP is opening its doors to many contingencies and that is a good thing, we have one world and must think of solutions together. If the parties are focused on Profitable sustainability, that is welcome although if sustainable profitability is their focus then we have trouble.

Sister Jayanti noted that people don’t yet realize that internal affects the external. “Whatever happens to the world starts with the human mind. When our minds have been focused on materialism and commercialism, we see the result of that. If our minds were to focus on spirituality, then we see a different world, full of truth, love, purity and joy. That goodness is inherent in every human being, but we have forgotten, and we have to learn to connect with that goodness within so that we express it in our lives,” she said.

A peaceful guided commentary summarized the session beautifully.
