Care, Share and Inspire – Climate Wisdom from COP28 on December 10 2023

In today’s Climate Wisdom series, the moderator Golo Pilz – Adviser Renewable Energy, Brahma Kumaris, shared that COP28 is now immersed in the nitty-gritties of negotiation which will determine if Dubai was a success. He also shared a study done for the World Economic Forum which projected that the income generated in the transition towards clean technology until 2050 will be USD.43 Trillion, which is a golden opportunity for businesses.

The panel of experts for this episode were Kehkashan Basu  – Founder Green Hope Foundation, Co- Lead of UN Women Generation Equality; KanikaDewan – Chair/Founder, Ka Venture, Ka Design, Atelier & Group President at Bamco Group

Sister Maureen Goodman – Programme Director for the Brahma Kumaris, UK

Kehkashan said that this COP has been successful in bringing more younger people to the table, although there needs to be recognition of them as change makers who actually do the job themselves. No matter how small, every action counts. We may not see the results of our work right away. If you plant an oak seed, it would take time to see results. Our future generations will benefit from our actions. That is an important mindset to work with. Simple things give me hope, it could just be bringing a smile on someone’s face.

Sister Maureen said that we need to make an internal paradigm shift that all life is sacred, and to go beyond labels to realize that we are one big family; this consciousness is important for climate justice. “What needs to be at the heart of climate change is the wellbeing of everybody and at every level, i.e. physical, mental, emotional and spiritual,” she added. Love came up as an important value needed in the society. She stated that each of us are energy, soul, or atma that has an original state of being, which is peace and unconditional love. These qualities have become buried because of the influence of the world. We need to keep going back to our essence and connect to the divine source that is greater than us, who is unlimited and constant. That love is so powerful that I can absorb it, feel secure and do what needs to be done.

KanikaDewan noticed that hope has emerged for businesses. Government is interacting with private sectors and is open to a non-hierarchical structure in terms of protocol and policies. Heads of state understand zero-waste circularity and the need to showcase and partner with private organisations practicing it. “We are going through an environmental crisis and decision makers should bridge the gap through sustainable happiness, i.e. being centered, aware and then make right decisions with a positive energy field around them. We can have adversity and problems, but what matters is how we flow with that change in balance,” she added.

A guided commentary by Sister Maureen brought everyone to their core and the divine source where they experienced peace and love.
